Kordon is a building-integrated termite management system designed for residential and commercial construction. Newcastle Pest Exterminators can install Kordon components at specified slab edges, service penetrations, construction joints and other potential termite entry points.
Kordon combines a durable physical laminate with the termite-repellent action of deltamethrin. When correctly specified and installed, it helps restrict concealed subterranean termite entry and directs termite activity towards areas where it can be detected during an inspection. A full under-slab Kordon TMB installation may also function as a moisture membrane when installed according to the applicable construction requirements.

What is a Kordon Termite Barrier?
Kordon is a flexible termite-management laminate installed during construction. It consists of non-woven polyester webbing impregnated with deltamethrin and laminated between two UV-stabilised polyethylene films.
The physical laminate restricts termite passage, while deltamethrin creates a repellent zone for foraging subterranean termites. Where Kordon blocks concealed access, termites may build visible mud tubes around the system. These workings can then be detected during a professional termite inspection.
Kordon can be installed in different configurations depending on the building design. These may include:
- Full under-slab Kordon TMB
- Slab-edge and perimeter installations
- Construction and control joints
- Kordon Kollars around pipe penetrations
- Wall, retaining-wall and other approved construction details
Moisture-membrane performance applies to appropriate Kordon TMB under-slab installations. A strip installed only around a perimeter, joint or penetration should not be described as protecting the entire property from moisture.
Benefits of Pre-Construction Termite Barriers
Newcastle Pest Exterminators installs Kordon systems as part of residential and commercial construction projects. Because Kordon becomes integrated into the building, installation must be coordinated with the builder, concreter, plumber and other relevant trades.
When a trained and approved installer correctly specifies and installs Kordon, the system can provide long-term management of concealed termite entry at the protected building details. However, regular inspections remain necessary because termites may bridge the system or enter through an unprotected or subsequently damaged area. In addition to providing peace of mind, termite barriers can also save you money by preventing costly damage.
Other benefits of a Kordon barrier include:
- Potential benefits of a correctly specified Kordon system include:
- Physical and chemical-repellent termite management in one laminated product
- Installation around slab edges, joints, penetrations and other approved construction details
- Full under-slab termite and moisture-membrane protection where Kordon TMB is specified
- Long-term durability when the product remains correctly installed and undamaged
- Australian design and manufacture
- Installation by trained and approved Kordon installers
- Access to Envu warranty options, subject to registration, annual inspections and all applicable terms
If you’re concerned about termites, be sure to ask Newcastle Pest Exterminators about installing a Kordon termite barrier.
Kordon Warranty and Annual Inspections
Envu currently offers a Limited Kordon Product Warranty for six years from installation or builder handover, subject to the warranty conditions and annual timber pest inspections.
This limited warranty applies when termites penetrate the Kordon product because of product failure. It does not automatically cover termite entry where termites bridge, travel around or enter through an area outside the installed system.
Envu also offers a separate Protection Program Warranty for eligible properties. This program provides 12 months of coverage at a time and may be renewed following an inspection by an Envu-accredited timber pest inspector. Fees, eligibility conditions and exclusions apply.
Property owners should register the installation, retain the compliance documents and arrange the required inspections. Always review the current warranty terms directly through the Kordon Warranty Centre.
Kordon Termite Management in Newcastle
Kordon is installed during specific construction stages, so early coordination is important. Our team can review the proposed building details and determine where Kordon may be suitable, including slab edges, penetrations, joints and full under-slab applications.
After installation, we provide the relevant system documentation and explain the inspection and warranty requirements. Homeowners should keep these records with their building documents and notify the installer before completing work that could damage, cover or bridge the system.
Kordon does not remove the need for regular termite inspections. Annual inspections help identify visible termite workings, damage to inspection zones and conditions that could allow termites to travel around the installed barrier.
If you are planning a new home, commercial building, extension or renovation, contact Newcastle Pest Exterminators before the relevant slab or structural work begins. We can coordinate the Kordon installation with your builder and explain which parts of the proposed system apply to your project.
