Fleas
Flea infestations can cause havoc around the home. Here are some facts you should know about this pest.
At Newcastle Pest Exterminators we believe that a successful flea treatment should be a ONCE ONLY treatment. That’s why Newcastle pest Exterminators can provide a warranty after the FIRST (and LAST) Flea Treatment. Being pet owners ourselves, we understand Flea pest Control for maximum effectiveness.
A Flea Infestation should be treated immediately. At a rate of 40 to 50 eggs being laid per day, flea infestations can increase astronomically and quickly. In fact, as soon as practicable, a Flea infestation should be treated by one of our specialists at Newcastle Pest Exterminators.
HARM LEVEL
Since fleas use a wide range of hosts, diseases can be transferred from one host to another. Fleas are known to transmit tapeworm larvae and, uncommonly, the disease murine typhus. They are most notorious for transmitting bubonic plague from wild rodents to humans in certain parts of the world (not Australia).
The three main species of flea that infest humans in Australia are:
- cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis)
- dog flea (Ctenocephalides canis)
- human flea (Pulex irritans).
The cat and dog flea are common in Australia. A flea bite is intensely itchy and secondary infections caused by scratching are common.
Wondering what fleas are exactly? Adult fleas grow to about 3 millimetres long, are usually brown, and have bodies that are ‘“flattened” sideways or narrow, enabling them to move through their host’s fur or feathers. The primary goal of adult fleas is to find blood and reproduce. Worried about fleas in your family home? Give us a call on 4058 4158 to keep your house flea-free!
FLEA PEST CONTROL SERVICES.
Adult fleas can remain dormant inside pupae or cocoons in your home for weeks to months. Only when the conditions are right, will they emerge as young and hungry adults. Fleas in pupae or cocoons are highly resistant to most treatments which is where Newcastle Pest Exterminators comes into the picture. We use an Insect Growth Regulator which within 4 weeks will have destroyed your Flea problem.
